The IRATA Level 2 qualification is an intermediate milestone structured for experienced technicians intending to advance their industrial rope workflows into specialized rigging setups and active rescue assistance tasks.
Course Overview
This program focuses heavily on complex rigging geometries, intermediate tool configurations, mechanical hauling setups, and tactical rescue scenarios for site containment.
Core Modules Included
- Advanced Rigging Design: Installation and load testing metrics for complex structures, re-belays, vertical deviations, and tensioned lines.
- Mechanical Hauling Systems: Constructing mechanical advantage gear assemblies (e.g., 3:1 layouts) to hoist materials or casualties.
- Complex Rescue Systems: Rescuing casualties from ascenders, aid climbing environments, and navigating team-managed lowering lines.
- Legislative Awareness: In-depth study of regional statutory requirements, safety policies, and gear tracking documentation protocols.
Course Duration
The training runs over 5 consecutive days, incorporating 4 days of detailed practical skill execution and 1 independent assessment day by an external assessor.
Certification Validity
Successful completion updates your position in the IRATA international registry and extends your certification validity for another 3 years.
Course Entry Requirements
- A valid, in-date IRATA Level 1 certificate.
- A minimum of 1,000 logged rope access operational hours verified in an official IRATA logbook.
- At least 12 months of confirmed work experience as a Level 1 technician.
